Hon.-Justice-Raheem-Akanbi2Hon. Justice Raheem Akanbi Shiyanbola is a distinguished judge who has made monumental contributions to the advancement of Nigerai’s judicial system. He is an embodiment of truth and transparency, and has served meritoriously in the Osun State Judiciary.

He was born on October 1, 1960 at Ede in Ede South Local Government Area of Osun State. He obtained the first School Leaving Certificate from the L.A. Primary School, Ponpola, Ede (1964-1970). He was at the Seventh Day Adventist Secondary Modern School, Ile Ife from 1972 to 1973; Lagos Secondary Commercial Academy, Obanikoro, Lagos (1973-1974) and AnsarUd-Deen School, Falolu Road, Surulere, Lagos (1974-1978) where he eventually made his grades in the West African School Certificate Examinations and the General Certificate of Education Advanced Level in 1979. Later, he proceeded to the University of Lagos (1980-1983) where he bagged LL.B (Hons) and the Bachelor of Law in 1984 from the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Justice Raheem Akanbi Shiyanbola is one jurist who has wide knowledge of adjudication. He gleaned his experience as a result of his services at various work points. He was a clerk at Tractor & Equipment, U.A.C of Nigeria Limited, Oregun, Lagos (1978-1980). He worked at the Legal Aids Council, Benin City, Edo State (1984-1985) as a Youth Corps member. From 1985 to 2000, he was into private legal practice and joined the Public Service of the Osun State Ministry of Justice in October 2000. Between 1992 and 1997, he was Chairman Tenement Rate Tribunal, Ede Local Government. He was also a part-time Law Lecturer at the Federal Polytechnic, Ede Osun State (1994-1998).

Some of the other key appointments that he has held include: Deputy Director, Litigation and Advisory Services, Legal Drafting and Ministerial Counselling (2000-2002); Director, Litigation and Advisory Services, Legal Drafting and Ministerial Counselling (2002-2003); Director of Public Prosecution (2003-2005) and Chairman, Funds Allocations Committee, Ministry of Justice, Osun State (2001-2005). He was elevated to the High Court Bench in August 2005. He has made bold marks in both Osogbo Judicial Division and the Iwo Judicial Division.

Justice Shiyanbola has delivered papers at the Bar Week of the Nigerian Bar Association, Osogbo Branch and at the Quarterly Seminars of the Magistrates’ Association of Nigeria, Osun State Branch. Shiyanbola won the PSR Grand Award for Productivity in Africa in 2010.

He is happily married with children. His hobbies include reading, jogging, farming, listening to old music, legal and general research and table tennis.
