Canadian rapper, Jon James McMurray has died after falling to his death while performing a stunt that involved rapping while standing on the wing of an aeroplane in flight.

According to the Canadian Press, the 34-year-old McMurray who had been training intensively for months to perform the stunt did not have enough time to pull his chute when the plane went into a downward spiral that the pilot could not control.

“As Jon got further out onto the wing of the plane, it caused the small Cessna to go into a downward spiral that the pilot couldn’t correct,” a statement from his management team released to Canadian Press read.

“Jon held onto the wing until it was too late, and by the time he let go, he didn’t have time to pull his chute. He impacted and died instantly,” it added.

Born in Calgary, Alberta, McMurray was a professional skier until he suffered a broken back and shattered heel. He consequently switched hobbies to pursue a career in music.

The local police department, the Coroner’s office and the country’s Transportation Safety Board are however investigating the death.
