The military in Turkey has just announced that it has taken over the government of the nation. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who has been on holiday in the coastal area is unable to go back to the capital, Ankara. The borders on both the European and Asian sides of Turkey have been closed. Airports and seaports have been shut down. Apparently, all radio and TV stations are under the control of the soldiers, even access to social media has been largely blocked.
As it is, the President only managed to reach out through a cellphone to denounce the coup and threaten that those involved would pay a heavy price but is unable to speak to his countrymen on state radio and television. The exact cause of the coup is yet to be disclosed but the coupists are claiming that the government of Erdogan has lost its legitimacy. Soldiers are all-over the streets of Istanbul and Ankara and a curfew has been declared. No one for now can say who is in control between the government of President Erdogan and the leaders of the coup.
