The Mayor of Clay, a West Virginia town in the United States has resigned along with another official after a racist post on Facebook calling the First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama an “ape in heels.”
A county employee, Pamela Taylor wrote on Facebook: “It will be so refreshing to have a classy, beautiful, dignified First Lady back in the White House. I’m tired of seeing a (sic) Ape in heels.” The Mayor, Beverly Whaling then commented saying, “Just made my day Pam.”
Thousands of people protested on Facebook against the post and both profiles of Pamela Taylor and (now former) Mayor Beverly Whaling have been taken off the social network.
