Nzuko Umunna, a Pan Igbo group, has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
Leader of the group and former Central Bank governor, Prof. Charles Soludo made the request on behalf of the group while addressing journalists in Abuja.
Flanked by notable figures including Prof. Pat Utomi, Dr Udenta Udenta and other prominent Igbo professionals, Soludo said the Federal Government must obey court orders. He also accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of neglecting its electoral promises to Nigerians.
“There seems to be a national consensus that the current system cannot endure. We are in a state of emergency at all levels. The national council of states should be convened urgently,” he said.
“We demand for the urgent release of Nnamdi Kanu and his colleagues as well as all prisoners of conscience,” he added.
