The spokesman for the Ugandan Police Force, Andrew Felix Kaweesi, has been shot dead alongside his driver and personal security aide just outside his home in the country’s capital, Kampala.
According to presidential spokesman, Don Wanyama, Kaweesi was attacked in his jeep by the unknown assailants while on his way to work this morning.
The tragic incident follows a series of high profile assassinations that have ignited fear and feelings of insecurity among inhabitants of Kampala.
Uganda has been rocked by series of targeted killings in recent years. Recently, Joan Kagezi, a high-profile prosecutor who was handling a court case involving alleged Islamic extremists was killed
The motive behind Kaweesi’s murder is not yet established but the suburb where the attack took place is known for its relatively high crime rate.
Before his death, the police mouth-piece made his last public appearance at an event where he vehemently disputed a Human Rights Watch report that accused Ugandan forces of killing dozens of people during an attack on the palace of a tribal leader.
