As a US Navy strike group led by a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier heads towards the Western Pacific Ocean, North Korea has warned the United States of a pre-emptive nuclear strike.
North Korea’s official newspaper, Rondon Sinmum, on Tuesday, stated that the country was ready to respond to any aggression from the United States.
“Our revolutionary strong army is keenly watching every move by enemy elements with our nuclear sight focused on the US invasionary bases, not only in South Korea and the Pacific operation theatre but also on US mainland,” it said.
Similarly, in a statement on its KCNA News Agency, North Korea’s foreign ministry called the US Navy strike group’s manouvre “a reckless move for invading which has reached a serious phase.”
However, United States and South Korean authorities say the move to divert the Navy Strike group, Carl Vinson, from Australia to the Western Pacific Ocean was precautionary and intended to checkmate the security situation on the Korean Peninsula.
