United States President, Donald Trump has pledged full support for his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in his fight against Islamic terrorists in the Middle East.
He made the declaration in a joint statement released by the two leaders after their meeting in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington.
“I just want to let everybody know in case there was any doubt that we are very much behind President Sisi. He’s done a fantastic job in a very difficult situation. We are very much behind Egypt and the people of Egypt,” Trump said.
The visit which was Sisi’s first official US trip since he was elected President in 2014, sought to reset the relationship between the two nations.
In his response, Sisi appreciated Trump’s support towards ending terrorism which he believes cannot be defeated solely by military force.
Under Trump’s predecessor, Barack Obama, relations between the US and the El-Sisi government in Egypt went cold with Obama suspending substantial military aid to that country.
