The American President, Donald Trump on Friday ordered the launch of 59 Tomahawk missiles on the Al-Shayrat air field near Homs in Central Syria. This action was in response to the chemical weapons attack from the same Syrian Army base that killed about 70 civilians in Syria earlier this week.
Trump is quoted to have said in an address following the strike that, “it is in the vital national security interest of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons.”
This action by the US government has further crippled the the country’s relations with Russia, who is in coalition with the Assad-led Syrian government.
In his response from the Kremlin, Vladmir Putin addressed the strike as a violation of international law and aggression against a sovereign nation. Russia has threatened to suspend a deal with the US to help prevent mid-air collisions over Syria thereby, fueling ongoing tensions between the US and Russia
