The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Chief Monday Igbuya was on Thursday morning, impeached by the State House of Assembly.
Twenty-two out of the 29 members of the state’s assembly endorsed Igbuya’s impeachment notice which was based on allegations of financial recklessness and high-handedness.
Mr. Igbuya was impeached alongside the Majority Leader, Tim Ohwofere who was suspended indefinitely at the sitting which was presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Friday Osanebi.
The impeached speaker has since been replaced by Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, the lawmaker representing Okpe Constituency while Mr. Johnson Erijo was elected as the new Majority Leader.
At the end of the sitting, the new speaker and other house members proceeded to the Government House to intimate the state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa of the developments and changes in the house leadership.
