Borussia Dortmund of Germany Striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Super Falcons of Nigeria coach, Florence Omagbemi are the only Africans named in the Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) shortlist for its annual awards.
While the 27-year-old Aubameyang who hails from Gabon was among the 24 players nominated for the Best FIFA Men’s Player award having topped the scorers’ chart in the German Bundesliga last season, Omagbemi was listed as one of the 10 nominees for The Best FIFA Women’s Coach after she led Nigeria to an eigth continental title last year.
Two panels of football experts from across the six football confederations of the world chose the shortlisted candidates for the different categories of awards. The eventual winners in the different categories will be unveiled at a ceremony to be held in London on October 23.
