In what was described as a very peaceful and transparent primary, Tony Nwoye has been elected as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State.
The 42-year-old Nwoye beat heavyweight, Senator Andy Uba, the party’s National Auditor, George Moghalu and nine other contestant to emerge victorious.
Nwoye, a medical doctor by training, polled 2,146 votes leaving his closest rival, Senator Uba with 931 votes while Moghalu amassed a total of 525 to finish third in the elections.
A breakdown of the results also show that Paul Chukwuma got 110 votes, Nonso Madu, 21 votes; Barth Nwibe, 414 votes; Mike Nwike, 20 votes; Chike Obidigbo, 22 votes, Donatus Okonkwo, 10 votes, Bosco Onunkwo, 85 votes; Obinna Uzor, 17 votes; Uchendu Adaobi, I vote while 31 votes were declared invalid in the exercise.
Nwoye who currently represents Anambra East/Anambra West Constituency in the National Assembly, will now slug it out with other aspirants including the incumbent Governor, Willie Obiano of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the November 18 gubernatorial elections in the state.
