Egypt’s Defence Minister, Sedki Sobhi on Tuesday announced that his country has severed all military ties with North Korea in support of South Korea.
According to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, Sobhi made the announcement during a visit to his South Korean counterpart, Song Young-moo in Seoul, the country’s capital.
“Egypt will actively cooperate with South Korea against North Korean acts that threaten peace,” Sobhi was quoted as saying during the meeting which is the first between the two defence ministers.
The report also noted that Sobhi was responding to a request from Young-moo for Egypt, which has maintained close ties with North Korea for decades to join efforts to toughen sanctions on Pyongyang over its recent ballistic missile launch and nuclear tests.
