The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State, Oseloka Obaze has selected Barr. Chidi Ekwueme – Onyemelukwe, the daughter of former Vice President of Nigeria, Alex Ekwueme as his running mate.
Addressing journalists at the party’s secretariat in Awka on Wednesday, Obaze said the decision to choose Chidi was to complement his efforts especially with her vast knowledge in the area of small and medium scale enterprises when she served as a special assistant to former President, Olusegun Obasanjo.
Obaze said: “In compliance with provisions of section 187 (1) of the 1999 constitution (as amended), I, Oseloka Henry Obaze after about three weeks of painstaking consultations with my family, the PDP hierarchy (both National and State), stakeholders in Anambra and beyond and the leadership of the Anglican Communion, wish to present formally to Ndi Anambra in particular and Nigeria in general, Lady Chidi Alexandra Onyemelukwe, my running mate for the November 18th, 2017 Anambra State gubernatorial elections.
“Lady Chidi comes to this state on a national assignment with rich personal accomplishments, impeccable credentials and high pedigree. A learned person, she is Lady of the Anglican Communion, Enugu Diocese and the first daughter of former Vice – President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Dr. Alex Ifeanyichukwu Ekwueme.
He further stated that Lady Chidi’s name along with his candidature has been duly submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through the National Caretaker Committee of the PDP in accordance with the Constitution and Electoral Guidelines of the party.
In her response, Lady Chidi stressed that her acceptance of the offer was about service, sacrifice and giving back to the society instead of sitting back at home and hurling stones about burning issues on print and social media.
