The Nigeria Police on Wednesday arrested an alleged army deserter, Ebeje Nnamdi who is suspected to be the trainer of members of the Nnamdi Kanu-led Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The 26-year-old Nnamdi was arrested in Iyi Oji area of Anambra State along with three other persons for alleged involvement in armed robbery.
The Anambra State Police Commissioner, Mr. Garba Umar while parading the suspects before newsmen on Thursday at the Command Headquarters in Amawbia said 336 rounds of 7.22 x 39 mm live ammunition and an AK47 rifle was recovered from Nnamdi and the suspected IPOB members.
“The Army deserter was formally of the 20 Mechanised Battalion, Taraba, in 2014 before he disappeared,” Umar said.
The commissioner further revealed that Nnamdi subsequently became the leader of a six-man gang responsible for attacking and killing policemen at check points, robberies at fuel stations including Bukachi Filling Station and Eziowelle, both in Onitsha on August 31, 2017.
He added that the armed robbery suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations were completed.
