The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) in Nigeria on Monday embarked on a nationwide strike.
According to the leadership of NARD, the decision to embark on the strike was reached by the doctors after their National Executive Council (NEC) meeting rejected an offer made by the Federal Government to stop them from embarking on the planned industrial action.
According to a statement released by Dr. Onyebueze John, the President of NARD, the doctors will be on strike until all the items they are demanding are met by the government.
“Rising from our NEC meeting which started by 7 pm yesterday (Sunday) and 3 am today (Monday), NARD has resolved to reject the promissory offer from Government, and proceed on total and indefinite strike action until all items in her demand list for strike action are resolved by Government,” the statement read in part.
The doctors are embarking on the nationwide strike to protest Federal Government’s failure to pay their 2016 and January to May 2017 salary shortfall as well failure to circularise House Officer’s entry point among other demands.
