Everton Football club has sacked its manager, Ronald Koeman following Sunday’s 5 – 2 loss to Arsenal which left the club swimming in the relegation waters of the English Premier League (EPL).
The Dutchman was already under severe pressure to quit prior to the encounter and the heavy defeat at Goodison Park ensured the sack of Koeman who has been in charge of the club for 16 months.
Koeman becomes the third Premier League managerial casualty of the season after Frank de Boer left Crystal Palace and Craig Shakespeare was sacked by Leicester City.
The 54-year-old Koeman, who guided Everton to seventh place and a European League spot in his first season in charge paid the price for a poor start to this season despite spending £140 million in the summer.
David Unsworth, a former Everton defender and the manager of the club’s Under 21 team will step up as the team’s interim handler pending when a suitable replacement is found to fill the vacuum left by Koeman.
