Nigerian rap artiste, Mister Incredible (MI) Abaga and his record label, Chocolate City have filed a suit against American hip-hop icon, Nasir Jones a.k.a Nas for breach of contract.
The lawsuit which was filed in the New York Supreme Court claims MI and his record label entered into an agreement with Nas and his partner, Ronnie Goodman in 2013 to contribute a verse to a track from MI but they did not adhere to the terms after a payment of $50,000 had been made.
According to the agreement, Nas was supposed to mention “MI, Chocolate City, Queens, New York, Mandela, Trayvon Martin and the struggles of Africans and African Americans” in his verse.
Although Nas delivered the verse, he did not mention any of the subject matter MI and Chocolate City had stipulated in the agreement.
The management of Chocolate City consequently requested that the Queen’s rapper re-records the verse which he never did three years after hence their decision to file the lawsuit.
Excerpts from the lawsuit referred to Nas as a “highly respected lyricist in the music industry” and they had wanted a verse from him because of his exceptional talent as a deep and conscious contemporary writer.
