Alex Iwobi’s 73rd minute goal was enough to qualify Nigeria for World Cup 2018. Nigeria leads Group B in the World Cup Qualifiers with 13 points with Zambia trailing behind with 7 points.
It was not an easy win. It was obvious to watchers of the game that Zambia came fully prepared to grab 3 points from Nigeria at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa-Ibom State. The Zambians dominated the first half with threatening shots at goal. The Super Eagles had a higher possession in the second half with several missed chances, but it was the 66th minute substitution of Simon Moses with Alex Iwobi that made the difference.
Nigeria becomes the first team in Africa to qualify for the Russia 2018 World Cup which is scheduled to take place from the 14th of June to the 15th of July, 2018.
