The scarcity of Jet A1, widely known as aviation fuel which started last weekend has paralysed flight operations as it has led to delays and cancellations especially the Abuja to Lagos route which is domestically the busiest.
Investigations reveal that only few flights operated on schedule as flights going from Lagos to major destinations like Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano, Owerri and Enugu were delayed or outrightly canceled even as the prices of the product had risen from about ₦180 to ₦200 per litre to ₦210 to ₦215 in Lagos.
The scarcity may have been caused by the delay in trucking the product from depots in Apapa due to the chronic gridlock that has crippled the nation’s major seaport and the activities of of marketers who usually hoard the products and create artificial scarcity as the yuletide season approaches in order to make additional profits.
Chris Iwarah, the spokesman for Air Peace said the airline had put plans in place to continue its operations and minimize the impact of the unfortunate development on prospective customers.
