The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) is set to embark on the identification and arrest of antagonists of the federal government on social media over what it describes as acts that are capable of disrupting national unity and peace.
Abdullahi Muhammadu Gana, the Commandant General of the NSCDC in a statement issued through his media assistant, Soji Alabi also ordered his men to go after websites, blogs and all social media antagonists who specialise in posting offensive, provocative and disparaging statements.
The statement disclosed that the Corps plans to collaborate with the military to ensure adequate monitoring of the social media against anti-government and anti-security communication and in ensuring that those found culpable face the full weight of the law.
Gana also debunked reports which went viral on social media that the Federal Government approved the recruitment of 10,000 graduates and 30,000 non-graduates for the NSCDC.
He further directed all the Deputy Commandant-Generals, Zonal Commanders, State Commanders, Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to keep tabs on blogs, websites and other social media antagonists, monitor the events in their areas of responsibility and report appropriately.
