At least 50 persons have been killed and several others are in critical condition following a suicide attack by a teenage boy after early morning prayers at a mosque in Mubi, Adamawa State.
The spokesman for the Admawa State Police Command, Othman Abubakar while confirming the tragic incident said the attack occurred around 5:20 am on Tuesday at Kunu Araha, a suburb in Mubi North Local Government Area.
Abubakar said the attack was triggered by a yet-to-be identified teenager who detonated the explosives-laden vest he was wearing immediately after the dawn prayers.
Abubakar said: “We were made to understand that there was a bomb blast at a mosque in Mubi and over 30 lives were lost. A boy of about 17 years wearing a suicide vest entered the mosque along with other worshipers.
“Immediately after the prayers, he detonated the bomb. Many of the wounded are receiving treatment at various hospitals in Mubi North where the attack occurred around Kunu Araha area,” he added.
Emma Adasolid, an official working with the International Rescue Committee who was among the first respondents at the scene of the blast said over 40 dead bodies have so far been evacuated by emergency aid workers.
