There was horror in Texas, United States this Sunday morning as a lone man with an assault riffle opened fire on worshippers in a church in the small town of Sutherland Springs. Many others were left wounded. The age of victims ranges from 5 to 72 .
According to law enforcement agents , the perpetrator of the heinous crime has been identified as 26- year- old white man named Devin Patrick Kelley. Although his motivation is still unknown,Kelly is said to have been dismissed from the US Airforce for what authorities termed ‘bad conduct’. He was accused of violently abusing his wife and child.
An eye witness says he first sighted Kelly that morning at a gas station in the town where he bought gasoline. He, according to the witness, was dressed in all-white.
Puzzling to law enforcement is the discovery that Kelly lived 40 miles away from Sunderland Springs. Why did he choose to attack a church that far away from him? That is a crucial question they are trying to find an answer to.
After the shooting, the killer fled the scene in his car but he was chased by concerned residents. When his car came to a stop, it was clear there was really no escape for him . Kelly was found dead with gunshot wounds.
President Donald J. Trump who is currently in Japan, his first stop on his 12-day Asian tour, reacted on Twitter thus: “May God be w/ the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas. The FBI & law enforcement are on the scene. I am monitoring the situation from Japan.”
