The Yobe State Police Command has disclosed that it lost a total of 235 officers and men while fighting Boko Haram insurgents in the last six years.
The State Commissioner of Police, Abdulmalik Sumonu made the revelation in Damaturu, the state capital on Tuesday during the conferment of an award on him by the Actors Security Watch Organization (ASWO), a non-government organization.
The Commissioner said the award is expected to serve as a tonic to the men of the Force to put in their best in their service to the community. He claimed the award was also a recognition of the dead officers who were killed while defending the nation.
“This award is not just for the Commissioner of Police but the entire police command for serving the nation diligently,” Sumonu said.
He commended the leadership in the country for giving the Police Force a sense of belonging and fulfillment and solicited for the support of other security agencies in the state to enable them meet the expectations of the people in the provision of security.
