The suspected gunmen who abducted a former Minister of Youth and Sports and current Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State, Damishi Tonson Sango have demanded ₦100million as ransom for his release.
Sango was kidnapped in Jere, Kaduna State on Wednesday while on his way to Abuja in preparation for Saturday’s elective convention of the PDP along with his son, his police orderly, driver and Emmanuel Mangni, a one-time factional Chairman of the party in the state.
Reports say the abductors used Sango’s personal mobile phone to contact a chieftain of the party in Abuja to make the demand. The undisclosed PDP chieftain in turn contacted his family.
Also confirming the incident, the Publicity Secretary of the PDP in the state, John Akans said: “Yes, the abductors of Honourable Damishi T. Sango are demanding a ransom of ₦100 million.”
Meanwhile, the Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong says the state government is working round the clock with security agencies in Plateau and Kaduna States to secure the unconditional release of Sango and the other kidnapped persons.
In a statement released on Friday by his Director of Press, Mr. Emmanuel Nanle, Lalong said he was saddened by the inhumane act and assured travelers plying the Abuja-Kaduna and Jos-Kaduna-Abuja route that the Federal and State governments were taking necessary steps to ensure that the roads were secured from armed robbers and kidnappers.
