At least three persons are feared dead after suspected militants attacked the Jebs area of Anantigha community in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State on Sunday morning.
Reports say the militants, who came with a gun boat from one of the many creeks in the area, opened fire on residential buildings located along Bassey Effiom Street, killing two persons in the process.
It was gathered that the area which is notorious for bunkering activities may have been targeted by the militants as it habours bunkers who reside along a beach known as Offshore.
Captain Kayode Owolabi, the Public Relations Officer of the 13 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Calabar while confirming the incident said they received information of the attack in the area and immediately deployed personnel to repel the militants.
He said in the ensuing onslaught, one of the militants was killed and his corpse handed over to the Police. He added that a pump action rifle was recovered from the dead victim while the rest escaped with injuries through the creeks in their boat.
