Angola’s President, Joao Lourenco has dismissed Jose Filomeno dos Santos, the second son of the country’s immediate past President, Jose Eduardo Dos Santos from his position.
Jose Filomeno was sacked on Thursday as the head of Angola’s Sovereign Wealth Fund following his indictment after an investigation into the mismanagement of a $5 billion fund.
He becomes the second of the former President’s children to be dismissed by President Lourenco, the first being his billionaire daughter, Isabel dos Santos who was relieved of her services as the head of the state oil company, Sonagol in November last year over allegations of corruption.
Lourenco, who was elected into office after winning the August 2017 presidential elections in the country had pledged reforms including fighting corruption and reviving the nation’s economy.
Last week, he had assured the nation that the relationship between him and Jose Eduardo, who ruled the oil-rich country for 38 years was normal.
