United States President, Donald Trump says he will defeat reality television show star, Oprah Winfrey in a presidential race if she eventually decides to contest in 2020.
Speaking with journalists during a White House meeting with lawmakers, Trump, while responding to a question said:
“Yeah, I’II beat Oprah. Oprah would be a lot of fun. I know her very well. I like Oprah. I don’t think she’s going to run.”
Speculations about a 2020 White House bid by the 63-year-old Winfrey who has for long been associated with Democratic politics and fundraising, blew up on social media and news outlets after her rousing speech at the Golden Globes Award on Sunday right.
The powerful speech, which touched on female and black empowerment, her roots in poverty and support for those who speak up against sexual abuse and harassment was delivered after she became the first black women to win the Cecil B. DeMille award for her outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.
Although Winfrey has not made any statement about the possibility of giving the race to the White House a shot, there is growing skepticism in some quarters that the Democrats might reject the notion of another celebrity political novice, following Trump’s election in 2016.
Should Winfrey consider the prospects of leading the American people, she would be up against Bernie Sanders, who was defeated by Hilary Clinton in 2016 and Joe Biden, the former Vice President in a bid to pick the Democratic Presidential ticket.
