At least seven persons are feared dead and several homes burnt to ashes at Kaguru village of Udawa ward in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State after a midnight raid by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
According to reports, the attack on Kaguru village, which borders the Kaduna-Lagos highway witnessed several minutes of sporadic shooting which resulted in injuries on scores of others who are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed General Hospital within the area.
According to an eye witness, the herdsmen invaded the village and instantly killed seven persons and burnt down many houses.
He added: “Many took refuge in nearby places. Scores, including children were also injured and taken to the hospital. Before the Police arrived for a rescue mission, the herdsmen had run into the bush and nobody could find them again.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state, Mallam Mukhtar Usman while confirming the incident said the situation had been brought under control while the dead have since been laid to rest according to Islamic rites.
