A governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, Senator Ifeanyi Araraume has condemned the recent attack on Archbishop Anthony J.V. Obinna of the Owerri Catholic Archdiocese by men believed to be loyal to Governor Rochas Okorocha’s son-in-law, Uche Nwosu.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Senator Araraume said the attack on the Archbishop by the hoodlums which occurred on Saturday during the funeral mass for the late Lolo Ezinne Eziada Juliana Mbata at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Ngwoma Obube was highly unacceptable.
Trouble was said to have started when the Archbishop during his sermon, cited the bad state of infrastructure across the state and urged the congregation to ensure that they obtain their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and vote the right candidates for good governance.
Araraume said: “We will like to state unequivocally that this act is totally unacceptable, condemnable and reprehensible. The perpetrators of this heinous offence should be brought to answer to the law.
“The person of Archbishop Obinna is a respected man of God and a senior citizen of our state. He should be treated with all measure of respect and dignity that he and his office deserve.
“The organization also disassociates the ruling party, All Progressives Congress, APC, from this act and action. The leadership of the party at the state and national levels condemn this act in its entirety.”
The lawmaker therefore called on youths in the state to shun all acts of violence and refuse to be used by power – drunk politicians to wreak havoc and indulge in illegal activities.
