The House of Representatives on Tuesday recalled Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, the lawmaker representing Bebeji/Kiru Constituency of Kano State.
This follows a letter of apology which Jibrin wrote to the lawmakers on Tuesday. Jibrin was suspended by the House for 180 legislative days in 2017 after he raised an alarm over alleged ‘padding’ of the 2016 national budget.
At the time of his suspension, the lawmaker, who was Chairman of the Appropriation Committee of the House was also banned from holding any position in the Lower Chamber.
Jibrin’s letter of apology was announced during plenary by the Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara. Although he did not read the contents of the letter, the Speaker said by implication, the lawmaker could resume ‘if he so wishes.’
Jibrin had accused Dogara and other principal officers of the House of allegedly attempting to pad the 2016 budget with over N30 billion worth of projects. He alleged that his insistence not to allow the said projects into the budget ‘became an issue’ with the House leadership.
He had also alleged that the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Chief Whip and Minority Leader had allocated billions of wasteful and ghost projects running into over N20 billion to their constituencies.
