The 24 Nigerian governors elected under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have announced their endorsement of President Muhammadu Buhari’s candidature in the upcoming 2019 presidential election.
The Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, Owelle Rochas Okorocha disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents shortly after their meeting with President Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Tuesday night.
“We came to welcome the President back and to commend him for his boldness and courage to declare his intention to run for second term as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which we the 24 governors of the APC duly support.
“And we have come to encourage him that he must go ahead with his vision to rescue Nigeria from its present challenges,” the Imo State governor added.
According to Okorocha, the meeting also addressed the issue of the forthcoming convention and congresses of the APC in order to make them hitch-free and produce a strong party chairman that can deliver tangible results for the party in the forthcoming general elections.
He dismissed insinuations that the meeting was convened to endorse the former Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the next APC National Chairman, adding that the governors would soon take a decision on the matter and make it public.
