Embattled Nigerian Senator, Dino Melaye this morning reportedly jumped off a police vehicle which was conveying him to a court in Kogi State.
Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) had on this Tuesday morning arrested Senator Melaye after he surrendered to the teams of policemen who had laid siege around his Abuja home since yesterday.
It is not yet clear what Melaye’s motive for attempting to jump off the vehicle was .He is currently hospitalized at Zankli Hospital in the Mabushi area of Abuja Federal Capital Territory.
According to reports, the lawmaker was arrested by the SARS and subsequently detained in a facility located opposite the old Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) junction along the Area 1 Expressway, which is known for detaining hardened criminals.
Recall that initial attempts were made by men of the Nigeria Police to arrest the Senator after Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) officials prevented him from boarding a Morocco-bound flight on Monday.
After his release from a three- hour detention at the NIS office at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, the lawmaker’s Maitama, Abuja residence was besieged by over 80 armed policemen from Monday evening until the early hours of Tuesday.
