President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed former Inspector-General of Police, Musiliu Adeola Kunbi Smith as the new Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC).
President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, read President Buhari’s letter seeking legislative confirmation of the appointment as well as that of six other members of the commission during Thursday’s plenary.
The 74-year-old Smith, who was appointed as the nation’s IGP in May 1999 and retired in March 2002 following a police strike is to succeed former IGP, Mike Okiro whose five year tenure has elapsed.
Appointed by then Lagos State governor, Babatunde Fashola as head of the Lagos State Security Council in 2007, Smith succeeded Ibrahim Coomassie as IGP and was replaced by Mustafa Adebayo Balogun.
