A weather reconnaissance airplane used by the United States military has crashed on a highway in Georgia, killing five persons, with another four still unaccounted for.
US officials say the crash of the WC – 130 airplane which belonged to the 156th Airlift Wing occurred near Highway 21 at Crossgate Road in Chatham County, located near Savannah International Airport around 11:30 am on Wednesday.
“As far as we know, there were no cars hit in this crash. It is an absolute miracle at that time of day, that intersection,” said Gene Bilbo of the Effingham County Sheriff’s office.
President Donald Trump has also condoled with the victims, friends and families of those involved in the crash.
“I have been briefed on the US C- 130 “Hercules” cargo plane from the Puerto Rico National Guard that crashed near Savannah Hilton International Airport. Please join me in thoughts and prayers for the victims, their families and the great men and women of the National Guard,” President Trump tweeted.
