The death toll from the outbreak of cholera which hit the Mubi area of Adamawa State two weeks ago has risen to 13 out of the reported 434 cases.
Confirming the figures through a statement issued on Sunday, the Information Officer of the Adamawa State Ministry of Health, Abubakar Muhammed said the state government was doing all within its means to curtail the spread of the disease.
The statement read in part: “Total number of cases reported from Mubi North and Mubi South Local Government Areas as at May 26, 2018, stand at 434 with 13 deaths.
“While the Case Fatality Rate (CFR) is 3.0 per cent; Mubi North has 211 cases and seven deaths equivalent to 3.3 percent case fatality rate. Mubi South has 223 cases with six deaths and case fatality rate is 2.7 per cent.”
Dr. Ezra Sakawa, the Principal Medical Officer at Mubi General Hospital however, said most of the infected patients have been successfully treated and discharged.
About 90 per cent of Mubi residents obtain their water from water vendors, whose sources of water are boreholes meant for irrigation along the banks of River Yedzaram.
