There was confusion at the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday when the former National Publicity Secretary of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olisa Metuh collapsed when he appeared in continuation of his trial for alleged fraudulent practices.
Metuh is facing trial on a seven-count charge of alleged diversion of the sum of ₦400 million which he reportedly received from the office of the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.
Shortly after appearances were announced at the Federal High Court, Mr. Metuh who was brought to the court in an ambulance was called to the dock. It was while he was heading towards the dock that he collapsed, causing confusion in the court.
Olisa Metuh is reportedly suffering from spinal cord injuries and has appeared in court on a stretcher numerous times as numerous attempts by his counsel to seek for a prolonged adjournment of his case and his treatment abroad has been severally denied by Justice Okon Abang.
Metuh’s counsel, Emeka Etiaba, told the court that he was prepared to hands off the case but his request was surprisingly turned down by the judge.
