As the Ramadan fast commences, President Muhammadu Buhari has charged Muslims in the country to use the opportunity offered by the exercise to increase their generosity, kindness and love for humanity.
In his Ramadan message to Muslims issued on Thursday by Malam Garba Shehu, his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, the President noted that the Ramadan period was a time to inculcate righteousness and discipline.
Buhari emphasized that Ramadan fasting is not just to stay hungry and thirsty but an opportunity to strive for inner purification and self-accountability.
He urged all Muslims in Nigeria and all over the world to copy the good example laid down by the Holy Prophet Mohammed by spending generously on the poor and needy during the period.
He further called on all Nigerians to always remember less privileged men and women and to assist his government in confronting the problems of the nation, praying that Allah grants all Muslims the strength to successfully complete the fasting.
