German Chancellor, Angela Merkel has described the contentious Group of Seven (G7) summit with the United States President, Donald Trump as a sobering and depressing experience.
She stated this in an interview on German public television on Sunday, adding that the outcome of the meeting “wasn’t a great thing” and that she sees it as a sobering experience.
Merkel, French President, Emmanuel Macron and the other leaders at the summit clashed with Trump over steel and aluminum tariffs as well as his decision to abandon a deal with Iran to limit its nuclear program.
The group managed a common statement in which they agreed to disagree on some issues, only to have Trump disavow the document in a tweet shortly after leaving the meeting.
