An aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the just concluded primaries in Ekiti State, Opeyemi Bamidele has been reportedly shot by a mobile policeman in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital.
Bamidele, a member of the seventh House of Assembly was reportedly shot at the APC secretariat located in the Ajilosun area of the city during a reception organized for the campaign take-off of the candidate of the party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.
Early reports said the bullets which hit Bamidele and two other persons accidently came off the rifle of a mobile policeman who was among the security personnel deployed to provide security at the event.
It was gathered that the policeman, who fell down with his gun during a stampede, was protecting some of the VIPs who graced the event from being mobbed by a crowd demanding money from them. An eye witness said as the policeman fell down with gun in hand, the riffle accidentally discharged.
In the melee that ensued after the accidental discharge, the yet-to-be-identified policeman was terribly beaten by the irate crowd after they disarmed him.
Bamidele who was hit in the arm, has been reportedly rushed to an undisclosed hospital for immediate treatment while one of the victims, who has not been identified is feared dead.
