The Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yutaka Kikuta on Thursday passed a vote of confidence on the ability of the Nigeria Police, especially the Lagos State Command to protect his countrymen and businesses.
Speaking at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja when he paid a courtesy visit to the state Police Commissioner, Imohimi Edgal, Kikuta said he had not received any negative security reports from Japanese nationals resident in Lagos
Accompanied by the country’s Head of Economic Team, Yosuhiro Ha Shimota and his deputy, Hiroki Ogawa, the Ambassador said that more than half of Japanese residents in the country were in Lagos.
Kikuta further promised that the Japanese government would work out modalities to assist the police with training of its personnel and provision of modern security gadgets.
“Security and protection of Japanese residents in Lagos is of great importance to us. I am very happy to be here. I appreciate the Commissioner for the co-operation we have enjoyed so far,” Kikuta said.
In his remarks, Edgal said the command was aware of Japanese population in the state and the over 40 businesses they operate, assuring the Ambassador of their safety.
“We are also aware a lot of Japanese businessmen will be coming to Lagos for the International Trade Fair in November. Let me assure you of the continuous safety of your nationals and other residents of the state. For those who will be attending the trade fair, they should have pleasurable moments in the state and enjoy Lagos night life,” he added.
