The eldest son of the Sultan of Sokoto, Usman Sa’ad Abubakar, popularly known as Amir was on Sunday involved in a ghastly car accident.
Amir, whose name means ‘leader’and was named after Sheik Usman Dan Fodio was said to have been driving at a very high speed of over 200km/hr around 12 noon at an area called Bado, along the Sokoto Airport Road when the accident happened.
Reports said those with him in the car were Khalifa Maccido, son of Alhaji Aliyu Macciddo and an unidentified girl even as witnesses at the scene of the crash said Amir had been tipsy while driving, claiming that a bottle of Benilyn Codeine syrup was found in the car.
He was taken to the Usman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital in the city where he has reportedly remained unconscious.
Eyewitness accounts say that while the unconscious Amir was being taken to the Usman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital, officials of the Sultanate Council were seen removing the Sultanate Council plate number from the car.
