Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has vowed to make sure that the law takes its full course on all those found culpable in the death of Miss Ochanya Ogbanje who died after being sexually abused for five years.
Ortom, who stated this in Makurdi when he received over ten groups including old students of the Federal Government Girls College Gboko, Ochanya’s school, said he was deeply touched and pained by her demise.
The groups, who began their protest from the gate of the Benue State University (BSU), proceeded to the Government House to register their grievances over the death of the young girl who was allegedly sexually abused by a polytechnic lecturer, Andrew Ogbuja and his son, Victor.
The governor who was represented by the Chief of Staff, Terwase Orbunde said that he was saddened by the pain the little Ochanya went through up to the moment of her death, stressing that her future was cut short by the wicked hearts of the duo.
”I feel pained because I have daughters. I am also a grandfather. What if it were my daughter? Why would an old man of that age and his son who is about to graduate in a university take to evil and terminate the life of an innocent minor, like Ochanya? The law must take its course on this matter,” Ortom said.
While condemning the dastardly act in its entirety, Ortom urged all abused people to speak out so that the world would know their plight and step in to arrest the situation before it becomes too late.
He, however, admonished people against stigmatizing the victims of sexual abuse, stressing that if they were stigmatized, most of them would not be encouraged to come out to make their cases public.
