The Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday dismissed one of its officers identified as Kadima Useni for alleged drunkenness while on duty in the Akowonjo/Dopemu area of the state.
According to a statement issued through CSP Chike Oti, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has also directed the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi to ensure appropriate disciplinary action was taken against Useni.
The statement said that Useni, who was shown to be drunk in a video that surfaced online earlier on Wednesday was tried in an orderly room where he confirmed that he was the one in the video.
It further said that Useni’s dismissal would serve as a deterrent to others, adding that the CP had ordered the shutdown of all beer parlours located in police formations and barracks across the state.
“To prevent recurrence of this type of incident, the CP has directed the officer in charge of the Command Provost Section to embark on a tour of all police formations and barracks within the state with a view to identifying and shutting all beer parlours within the police community.
“In the same vein, the CP warns against offering policemen alcoholic drinks while on duty by members of the public,” the statement added.
