A professor in the Department of Accounting of the Obafemi Awolowo University, (OAU), Ile-Ife, Dr Richard Akindele was on Monday remanded in prison for allegedly demanding sex in exchange for marks from one of his students, Miss Monica Osagie.
Akindele was arraigned at the Federal High Court in Osogbo, the Osun State capital by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) for unlawfully seeking sexual benefits from Miss Osagie.
The ICPC prosecutor, Mr Kehinde Adedoyo said the lecturer committed the offence on September 16, 2017 in contravention of Sections 8(1)(A) (2) and 18(d) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Act 2000.
The accused lecturer however pleaded not guilty to the allegation levelled against him and his lawyer, Mr. Fola Omotoso urged the court to grant him bail in the most liberal terms.
The ICPC lawyer opposed the bail application on the premise that the accused person refused to show up at the office of the Commission ever since he was granted administrative bail.
In her ruling, Justice Maurine Onyetenu declined the bail request, ordering that the professor be remanded in prison until November 27, being the adjourned date for continuation of his trial.
