An Appeal Court sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Tuesday sacked Buruji Kashamu as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State..
Delivering the judgment, the three-man appeal panel headed by Justice A.B. Bada set aside the order of a Federal High Court which upheld Kashamu’s election and declared Ladi Adebutu as the party’s governorship flag bearer for Ogun.
The panel also set aside the judgment of the High Court which had held that Kashamu and the candidates that emerged from the Adedayo Bayo-led faction of the PDP were the party’s candidates for the 2019 general election.
The panel which had Justices H.S. Samani and N. Okoronkwo as members also resolved the issues raised for determination in the appeal in favour of the PDP, holding that the rights of the appellants to a fair hearing were breached as they were not properly served when the case was heard at the lower court.
This development has also been confirmed by the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan who tweeted: “Appeal Court declares Ladi Adebutu as authentic @OfficialPDPNig governorship candidate in Ogun State, sets aside High Court order making Buruji Kashamu candidate.”
