Former Oyo State Governor, Rasheed Ladoja on Sunday defected from the state chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and directed his supporters to dump the party and move to the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).
Ladoja had alleged that a group within the ADC known as the Unity Forum had changed the winning template designed for the party ahead of the 2019 general elections.
He had also given the ADC leadership in the state 48 hours to change its deputy gubernatorial candidate, Saheed Alaran. The failure of the ADC leaders to heed his instruction necessitated the move.
Speaking shortly after his defection, Ladoja asked the leadership of the ZLP to forward the name of former Secretary to the State Government, Sharafadeen Alli to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the party’s new gubernatorial candidate.
Ladoja’s former finance commissioner, Waheed Akanbi who emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of the ZLP in October was reportedly prevailed upon to allow Alli fly the party’s flag.
