A former governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa on Thursday submitted a counter-petition against his successor, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko at the zonal office of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Submitting the petition to Ahmed Lateef, the Sokoto State Zonal Head of EFCC, Bafarawa, who was last year discharged and acquitted of corruption charges preferred against him by the EFCC stated that the case should be revisited so that Wamakko could be compelled to account for about ₦13 billion which he left behind after his tenure.
According to the former governor, the amount included the ₦11.8 billion he left in the coffers of the state government, ₦500 million belonging to the Maccido Institute for Qur’an and General Studies and iron rods worth over ₦1 billion.
Bafarawa, who revealed that he lost a lot of money during the trial which lasted about eleven years maintained that since Wamakko no longer enjoyed immunity, the EFCC should investigate the petition to ascertain the truth of the matter.
Bafarawa said that he was encouraged to file the petition following his acquittal and discharge by a court of competent jurisdiction, adding that he was in possession of all the documentary evidence.
Receiving the petition, Lateef assured Bafarawa that the petition which he listed as number 001 would be thoroughly investigated in order to ensure that justice was done at the end of the day.
