President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed Abubakar Adamu, an Assistant Inspector-General as the new Inspector-General of Police (IGP). He replaces Ibrahim Idris who has now retired after attaining the statutory retirement age of 60 and having served up to 35 years.
Adamu’s appointment is however in acting capacity. An official statement from the police headquarters this Tuesday confirmed his resumption of duties. The statement signed by police spokesman, DCP Jimoh Moshood read:
“The Acting Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu,NPM,mni has taken over from the outgoing Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Kpotun Idris,NPM,mni, today, 15th January, 2019 after he was decorated by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari,GCFR.
” The new Acting Inspector General of Police, Ag. IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, NPM,mni has immediately assumed duty.”
Adamu Mohammed is a former Commissioner of Police of Enugu State. He was before his appointment, on a course at the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru in Plateau State. Mohammed was a Deputy Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State and he once served at the Interpol.
