Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has warned that any individual or group plotting to lead political thugs to snatch ballot boxes or disrupt the forthcoming elections risk doing so at the expense of their lives.
Buhari, who stated this on Monday while speaking at the caucus meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) said the Federal Government would investigation what actually transpired prior to the postponement.
The President also vowed to probe the country’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for postponing and rescheduling the elections in the country at the last minute.
He said: “We have to tell our constituencies that they have to be patient and that they must react in a responsible way by going peacefully to vote again and that they should depend on party representatives in each of the 176, 000 polling units.
“We have all calculated it and those who have been given the responsibility to watch the party’s interest and I do not expect anybody to make any disturbance. I have briefed the law enforcement agencies and the military.
“They have identified hot spots, flash points. They should be prepared to move. We have made possible arrangements and resources provided as much as the country can afford.
“And anybody who decides to snatch boxes or lead thugs to disturb it, maybe this is the last unlawful act you will take. I have given the military and the police an order to be ruthless because we are not going to give an opportunity for the election to be rigged. So, if you think you have so much influence in your area and you organize thugs to snatch ballot boxes or disrupt the election, you will be doing it at the expense of your life.”
